Taminations provides written definitions and animations to help you learn square dance calls. You may view calls from different starting positions, create sequences of calls, and quiz yourself using the “practice” feature. There are also notes about styling and common ways you’ll see the calls. In total there are over 3000 animations covering 500+ calls (covering mainstream, plus, advanced, and challenge levels)!

Week 1

Couples 1, 2, 3, and 4 – The couple with their backs to the caller is couple one. Continue numbering the couples in a counter-clockwise fashion.

Head and Side Couples – The couples facing and with their backs to the caller are heads (couples 1 and 3). The others (2 and 4) are sides.

Partner, Corner, Opposite, Right-hand Lady – Your partner is who you are currently holding hands with (men on the left, women on the right). Your “partner” will temporarily change as you move through different calls. When standing in a square, face away from your partner – that’s your corner! Across the square is your opposite.

The Nature of Calls – Calls are issued to the men, unless prefaced by a qualifier such as “ladies” or “centers”.
